At Bouchercon, we gather to talk about the darker side of human nature. But the darkness stays on the page. The convention is run by fans, for fans, and is intended to be a relaxed and inclusive environment to celebrate the genre and community.
We welcome people from all backgrounds, regardless of religion, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, medical condition, age, or body size. Bouchercon should be free of any discrimination, abuse, or harassment based on these, or any other, factors.
We define harassment as any behavior that threatens, alarms, or makes someone uncomfortable. Examples may include but aren’t limited to: Verbal or written comments of a sexual or violent nature, unwanted physical contact, ethnic slurs, recording or photographing without consent, following or stalking, and coercion of any kind.
This code of conduct applies to all official Bouchercon spaces, such as the convention floor, check-in, panels, meeting rooms, book room, website, and our social media accounts. The code also applies to all Bouchercon-sponsored events, such as dinners, galas, or book signings.
Any attendee asked to stop harassing behavior is expected to comply immediately. If you feel the situation is of an urgent nature, such as immediate physical danger, you should immediately contact a member of the hotel or convention center staff, or the police. Bouchercon reserves the right to address any behavior in apparent violation of this policy however it deems appropriate.
